Key accomplishments to date:

I moved to England for eleven years in 1984, enrolled at England's oldest architecture school and joined the Royal Institute of British Architects as a student member in 1985.

When I completed the Royal Institute of British Architects Part 1 (1987 High Pass) & RIBA Part 2 (1993) examinations I was also awarded the AA Diploma by The Architectural Association School of Architecture, in London during this period.

I married in 1986, and remain married to the same partner to this day having raised three children since 1991.

My initial working career began in 1987 during my internship with Ove Arup & Partners in London.

I certified RIBA Part 3 with ARCUK Registration (061069K) completed at University of Bath in October 1995.

Practiced in England from 1984 to 1995 with Laboratory and Healthcare based practices.

My first role as project architect was found in 1993 on New Neuroscience Research Lab in London.

Keen to live in The Pacific Northwest, I returned to USA in 1995 and authored concept for $160mm Corrections Project for NBBJ & State of Wa. Completed multi-phase role responsible for planning and design/ documentation of multi-custody infirmary.

I had a supporting Architect Role on Reebok World Headquarters in 1997 with NBBJ Reebok Team- SD Phase to Construction Documentation- solely responsible for parking structures worth 18% of total construction budget.

Project Architect/ Lab Planner Role at Stanford University, University of Washington, and Zymogenetics while with MBT Architecture.

Project Architect on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Facility for Pfizer Pilot Plant using BIM.

Lab Planner roles at Millennium Pharmaceuticals, The University of California in Riverside (UCR Biological Sciences) and the Center for Disease Control in Georgia yielded direct experience with lab scientists while employed by AHSC McClellan Copenhagen.

In 2004, I collaborated with Gwathmey Siegel & Associates Architects llc,  and was solely responsible for the design, supply, construction management, commissioning and monitoring of a 50kW Photovoltaic System for New Jersey Institute of Technology.

I won a $2mm public bid to design, supply, construction manage, commission and monitor 500kW of Schott Solar Photovoltaic Systems at four schools in Kearny, NJ in 2005 which produce 585MWh per year.

The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey's first solar PV project was designed, supplied, construction managed, commissioned and monitored by my company, TurtleEnergy LLC in 2006. 

By 2006, I had Founded Turtle Energy LLC, a renewable energy system integration company and successfully grew the company to generate $11MM in sales and $1.6MM in margin after just 3 years. 

I have been soley responsible for many solar energy systems through a novel strategic business plan- selling, marketing, designing and maintaining solar energy systems capable of powering entire buildings and campuses with leading edge technological innovation. This plan positioned my firm for third party finance of photovoltaic systems from which building owners would only have to buy discount electricity from these investor owned systems that culminated with the design and construction of a $28mm solar project at The Lawrenceville School that produces 100% of the 9500MWh annual electricity consumption by the school.

Education

John Millard attended the Architectural Association School of Architecture from 1984 to 1987 (under Peter Salter & Pascal Schoning) when he completed The Royal Institute of British Architects Part 1 Exam (Examined by Peter Rice and Christoff Langhoff)

Internship with Arup Associates from 1987 until 1989 yielded significant multi-disciplinary design experience with Arup-in house structural, electrical and mechanical engineering support for the team of architects leading projects such as Goodwood Equestrian Grandstand (Sussex), Imperial War Museum (London), Royal Life Insurance (Peterborough), Triton Square Development (London), Closegate Hotel (Newcastle),  Emerald Street Redevelopment (London) and Paternoster Square (London). Note: earliest use of CAD during this internship using GDS by McDonnell Douglas and BIM though live multidisciplinary coordination.

John spent a further three years from 1990 to 1993 in the Diploma School at The Architectural Association School of Architecture (under Peter Salter, Jeanne Sillet & Mike Gold), earning both the AA Diploma of Architecture and passing the Royal Institute of British Architects Part 2 examination (examined by John Pringle & Ingrid Morris) in July of 1993.

Finally in 1995, after completing apprenticeship at Devereux Partnership designing A Functional Brain Imaging Laboratory Case Study for RIBA Part 3- I prepared for and completed the Royal Institute of British Architecture Part III examination at University of Bath. During this time I was employed by London Underground working on the Jubilee Line Extension designing the Selective Services Distribution System while on the Components Team. Later in 1998, I was elected into corporate membership of The RIBA.
