Project Data
End-User: Drill Construction
Installer: LB Electric
Location: 80, Main St, West Orange, NJ
Date of install: July 2006 – Oct 2006
Size of system in kW: 55kW
Energy produced since installation
Special Challenges Met: 1) Project was delayed by Xantrax Inverter manufacturer, who shipped the wrong inverter and then a broken transformer.
Project Brief
Drill Construction has their offices in West Orange, NJ. LB Electric provided customer liaison and project management and were also the electrical contractor of record. Turtle Energy designed a Photovoltaic system to be installed on the building.
Turtle Energy undertook a detailed analysis of the site. This analysis was comprised of the following steps and implementation.
Shading Analysis
Optimal System Design and Concept Planning
Industrial Design of the Components of the System
Multi-Disciplinary Coordination with Architects, Structural Engineers, Electrical Engineers, and Construction Management.
The project commenced in July 2006 and the system was commissioned in October 2006. The size of the PV system for Drill Construction is 55kW.
The inverter for the project was originally specified to be a Satcon 50kW inverter. However the project schedule could not withstand the lead time for Satcon, therefore a Xantrax 45kW was ordered. Xantrax first sent an inverter with the wrong transformer in it, after which they sent another transformer that arrived in an undamaged box but the transformer inside was damaged. Finally they sent us the correct transformer. This all caused significant time delay and extra labor costs; however LB Electric and Turtle Energy were able to complete the project in time.
Fat Spaniel’s inverter direct internet-based monitoring system was implemented and Fat Spaniel data acquisition illustrations show snapshots of the actual energy generation by the PV system for Drill Construction. These measurements are in compliance with the predicted analysis done by TurtleEnergy and in some cases slightly exceed the target energy output range. Data monitoring results are available both on a real-time and historical basis. Measurements can be viewed on daily, weekly, monthly, yearly or lifetime intervals. The installed PV system has successfully helped reduce the on-grid energy usage.
